Halogen Free Era
The halogens elements are a series of nonmetal elements from Group VIIA of the periodic table, comprising fluorine, (F); chlorine, (Cl); bromine, (Br); iodine, (I); and astatine, (At).
Halogens are extensively applied in printed circuit board, welding mask and other common electric products. In the soldering industry, halogens are used as a flux activator. Through its chemical reaction, better soldering can be made. However, some chemicals containing halogens are known to easily release toxic substance like dioxin in combustion. At present, some customer follow the Restriction of Halogen Free in their products to meet the requirements of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) against halogen. The trend will continue and the use of Halogen-free product is expected to increase in the near future.
